Title of Program

Holistic Health and Mindful Medicine

Hometown

Milledgeville, TN

Description of Program

The world of medicine and healthcare is evolving everyday with new techniques, ideas, and technologies. My program aims to integrate the evolving world of medicine with alternative healing approaches to create a comprehensive approach to healthcare. As an aspiring physician, I want to approach patient care not just from a clinical perspective but from a place of empathy, mindfulness, and understanding of the full spectrum of health—mental, physical, and emotional. This program allows me to blend the knowledge and skills of conventional healthcare with alternative therapies, such as mindfulness, nutrition, and psychosomatic medicine. Additionally, this program will allow me to explore patient-centered care in a variety of settings, including alternative therapies like yoga, art therapy, and meditation, preparing me to work with diverse populations and improve overall patient wellness. It will also help me understand the ethical and cultural dimensions of healthcare, allowing me to communicate effectively and advocate for my patients. Through this program, I will not only deepen my passion for integrative medicine but also develop the skills to become a caring and innovative healthcare provider, enhancing patient well-being and promoting improved patient outcomes.

Departmental Emphases

BCMB, Psychology, Neuroscience, Child and Family Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, and Human Development and Family Science

Anticipated Graduation Date

May 2027

Plans After Graduation

After graduation, I intend to pursue a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health. Then, I plan on applying to medical school after with the goal of becoming a practicing physician.

Other Academic Interests

The philosophical concepts that influence our understanding of mental health are interesting to me. Humanistic and existential views, for instance, emphasize authenticity, personal significance, and choice; these ideas are central to therapies such as person-centered counseling and existential psychotherapy. Additionally, I'm curious about how cognitive-behavioral techniques relate to more narrative-based models, enabling individuals to rewrite their own narratives and gain a deeper understanding of their mental health issues.

Study Abroad

I plan to study aboard in the summer of 2026 with the UTK Cultural Psychology in Italy. Additionally, I would like to study in Paris for the following Winter mini-term.

Research Experience or Internships

I am currently working to pursue research in the field of psychology, specifically in relation to psychiatry and human behavior.

Part-time Employment; Hobbies; Campus Clubs/Activities

During my time at UT, I hope to become an ambassador for the Center for Health Education and Wellness (CHEW). I would also like to become a Vols 2 Vols peer health educator.  I am an active member of Phi-Delta Epsilon Pre-Medical Fraternity. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, and visiting local coffee shops.
