Title of Program

Nutritional Advocacy in the Healthcare System

Hometown

Normal, IL

Description of Program

My program, Nutritional Advocacy in the Healthcare System, combines pre-medical coursework with studies in nutritional science, public health, research, and persuasive health communication. The goal of my program is to better understand the role nutrition plays in chronic disease prevention and patient care while exploring current gaps in nutritional education within healthcare systems. Through this interdisciplinary approach, I hope to develop both the scientific knowledge and advocacy skills necessary to promote more holistic and preventative approaches to medicine.

Departmental Emphases

Nutrition, Public Health, English, Pre-Medicine

Anticipated Graduation Date

May 2028

Plans After Graduation

After graduation, I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician. I am especially interested in women’s health and am currently considering a future in OB/GYN or surgery. Long term, I hope to combine clinical practice with advocacy work focused on improving preventative healthcare and nutritional education within medical settings.

Other Academic Interests

Spanish, women’s health, healthcare policy, public health, medical humanities, and persuasive writing.

Research Experience or Internships

Interned at Heart of Illinois Obstetrics & Gynecology, where I shadowed physicians, sonographers, and nurses while assisting with patient check-ins, vitals, documentation, and patient flow. I am also interested in conducting future research on nutrition and women’s health, particularly related to conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis.

Part-time Employment; Hobbies; Campus Clubs/Activities

I currently work as a manager and lifeguard at Fairview Family Aquatic Center. On campus, I am involved in the Music Industry Club as their Director of Artistry and am also a member of Phi Delta Epsilon and Friends of MSF. Outside of academics, I enjoy songwriting, performing music, releasing my music, and volunteering within healthcare and church communities.
