Human-Centered Design

My major, Human-Centered Design, is based on building spaces and products that are for human use above all else. Combining classes from urban planning, industrial design, landscape design, geographic information science, and transportation engineering, my program is interdisciplinary and synthesizes fields that prioritize ease, sustainability, accessibility, community growth, and beauty. Supported by psychology, policy, and communication skills, I hope to build innovative, original spaces that defy current standards for human living and naturally encourage community, livable atmospheres, imaginative play, and functional accessibility for all humans.

After graduation, I hope to work as an urban planner for firms that partner with American city and state municipalities to improve urban infrastructure and build innovative communities. With this job, I will be able to impact the lives of civilians directly by creating communities supported by healthy density, walkable infrastructure, multimodal transportation systems, and bountiful vegetation. I am also interested in pursuing a master's in City and Regional Planning with a concentration in Transportation or Sustainable Design at Georgia Tech or the University of California at Berkeley.

With a course called GIS in the Community, in the spring of 2025 I was able to study abroad in Uvita, Costa Rica. My research group studied water, air, sound, and coral quality as well as tourism and its impact on urbanization in Uvita.

In the past, I have interned as a Product Design Intern for a children’s media company called Minno where I worked with professionals to create the first line of merchandise for the children’s brand Minno. I currently work as a Research Assistant under Marcella Kaplan at the UT Center for Transportation Research where I reach gendered electric vehicle adoption.

On campus, I am a member of the Leadership Knoxville Scholars program, the Christian Student Fellowship, the UT Association of Geographers and Sustainers, and Cinema Club. I am the Secretary-Treasurer for the UT chapter of Habitat for Humanity. In my free time, I love to listen to rock music, watch movies, bake, thrift, draw, read sci-fi books, dream, and hang out with my sister.
