Environmental Law with an Emphasis on Public Policy, Food Insecurity, and Sustainability

My program addresses the complex interplay between environmental factors and food security. I plan to study how environmental policies impact agricultural practices, food distribution, and access to nutritious food, with a focus on reducing food insecurity and promoting equitable food systems. I also intend to engage in practical experiences through internships, fieldwork, and projects that address real-world environmental and policy challenges.

The Baker School of Public Policy, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Herbert College of Agriculture are my largest three departments.

May 2027

After graduation, I plan to attend law school to become an environmental attorney and work in the field and development of sustainable cities and agriculture. I am working towards a career in environmental advocacy, policy analysis, legal practice, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, or international bodies.

I am heavily interested in agricultural advocacy, and specifically teaching elementary-age children where their food comes from and ways we can grow food in cities.

I plan to study abroad in Freiburg, Germany which is one of the most sustainable cities in the world, to research different ways to promote sustainability back in Knoxville.

This summer, I was fortunate enough to intern at the Paulding County Municipal Court and worked under Judge Suzanne Rister learning about local government law. I also plan to research crops that can be grown on green roofs during the spring semester with my mentor; Mike McKinney.

I work at Emerald Academy in Knoxville, am President of the Companionship Project here on campus, and am a member of the Sustainable Business Organization, Chancellors Honor’s Program, Honors Student Engagement Council, Delight, and a Nanny.
