Title of Program: Industrial Design

E-mail Address: jmaine2@vols.utk.edu

Hometown: Knoxville, TN

Year: Junior

Anticipated Graduation Date: Spring 2021

Description of Program: My program emphasizes learning how to produce human centered products as well as understand how to market those products. This program seeks to create a solid educational foundation made up of several different design disciplines. Moreover, I would like to engage with other students and facility within those disciplines to further my own knowledge of design, as well as to strengthen my ability to work on a multidisciplinary team.

Departmental Emphases: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Art, Marketing, Advertising, and Engineering

Faculty Mentor: David Matthews and James Rose

Plans after graduation (career, graduate/professional school, etc.): Currently, I would like to pursue a master’s degree program that would specialize my general Industrial Design degree further, possibly into automotive designs.

Other Academic Interests: Art, Philosophy, Music, Graphic Design, Photography, and Film.

Study Abroad: I hope to embark on a study abroad trip that would enrich my design horizon much like those before me went on “The Grand Tour” consisting of journeying around places like Rome and Italy. I would of course be documenting and learning as I go through sketching and photographing.

Research Experiences or Internships: I interned at a local engineering company, Mesa Associates, Inc. where I learned how to assemble automation equipment and wire those machines. While there, I also learned how to read wiring diagrams and use AutoCAD.

Part-time employment; Hobbies; Campus Clubs/Activities: Currently, I work at the YMCA as a membership representative. I played hockey for the UT Ice Vols and now I just play recreationally. I also attend RUF (Reformed University Fellowship) on campus regularly. I like to do photography and hike. I also like to play video games and watch movies.
