Title of Program: Creativity in the Elementary Classroom

E-mail Address:

Hometown: Knoxville, TN

Year: Junior

Anticipated Graduation Date: May 2018

Description of Program: My goal is to incorporate the important skills that the arts teach, such as out-of-the-box thinking, confidence, leadership, team-work and self-discipline, with a general education curriculum at the elementary level by putting together a program that includes courses in the visual and performing arts along with education and psychology courses. As a child, I was fortunate to be involved in a variety of artistic activities, like dance, theatre, visual art, and singing; the skills I gained from my involvement in the arts gave me the tools to excel in school and beyond. As a future teacher, I hope to be an advocate for the arts inside the classroom; not just in the related arts, but in the regular classroom as my students learn math, reading, and science.
